Yomiko took her copy of The Iliad out to the porch to read. It was all so terribly romantic and doomed. Poor Patroclus. Passersby might occasionally hear her emit heartfelt sighs as she reached a particularly moving passage.

Parker hadn't thought anything of Jarod not answering her phone until she checked Saturday night's Radio podcast for news. He'd headed out of town? Maybe he'd gone on a day trip somewhere yesterday. Curious, she headed over to 18 Apocalypse Avenue.

"Hi, I'm Parker. I'm a friend of Jarod's. Has he been around today?"

Parker nodded, looking hesitant. "Would it be too much trouble, if I just checked on his cat? I have a key. I won't be more than a couple minutes, I swear. You can come with me, if you want?"

Parker blinked, and smiled. "No problem. And I don't think I caught your name?"

"Oh, hello. Yes, I'm a senior, and I'm friends with most of the Library Aides. I was an Aide all of last year." Parker relaxed a little, sizing Ms. Readman up and thinking, Well, she speaks English, and she's paying attention to the conversation... Which was a step up from both of the last Librarians.

"I'll just be a minute, I swear."

Parker let herself into Jarod's room, and M immediately twined around her ankles, mewing. The place looked cleaned up, neat, and there was a few days worth of food laid out for M.

In other words, he wasn't going to be back soon. Damnit.

After a few minutes cuddling M, and looking around for a red notebook, an envelope, a letter, anything, Parker gave up, and went back downstairs.

"Ms. Readman?" Parker bit her lower lip, and folded her arms. "If you see Jarod before I do, could you let him know I was looking for him?"

"I appreciate it." She smiled and said, "And I'll be around the library next week, probably. Maybe I'll check out the Iliad again. I don't remember it being that intense."

She stepped off the porch, and started to head to the gate. "Thanks!"

Where the hell was he?
